MIA-
Malawi Institute of Architects
it was established 1983 and received a certificate of incorporation on 19th December 1983 has existed for 37 years up to date; its co-founders were Arch. Michael S. Polela, Arch. Bernard W. Zingano, Arch. J.J. Sonke and Late Arch. J.R. Kanjere. Since its inception to date MIA has, registered 80 Architects.
The current register has 41 Architects of whom 4 are female Architects. In addition, MIA has 24 Graduate Architects, 6 Architectural Technicians and 26 Architectural Firms.
MIA in 2017, had its 1st Female President as well as Vice President Arch. Maliam Mdoko and Arch. Catherine Sani respectively. During its existence, MIA has been able to host 37s AGMs and register herself to increase it recognition with international bodies; Africa Union of Architect (AUA), Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA), and International Union of Architects (UAI).SOME FACTS
Our Mission
“In accordance with the Laws of Malawi, the objects of the Institute shall be generally to promote the cause, facilitate the advance, maintain the standards, and foster the understanding, the study, and the practice of Architecture; to assist the members of the public in Malawi in all matters touching on or ancillary or incidental to architecture and building; to represent the views and interests of the Institute’s members, and to preserve and protect the title “Architect”.

OUR OBJECTIVES
1. To organize, unite, and promote fellowship of all members of the institute
2. To promote the cause, facilitate the advance, maintain the standards, and foster the understanding, the study, and the practice of Architecture.
3. To assist the members of the public in Malawi in all matters touching on or ancillary or incidental to architecture and building
4. To represent the views and interest of the institute’s members, and to preserve and protect the title “Architect”.
5. To develop standards of professional training, education and practice
6. To promote the cause, facilitate the advance, maintain the standards, and foster the understanding, the study, and the practice of Architecture.
7. The association shall have no political objective.
