ABOUT MIA
Malawi Institute of Architects (MIA) was established 1983 and received a certificate of incorporation on 19th December 1983 has existed for 37 years up to date; its co-founders were Arch. Michael S. Polela, Arch. Bernard W. Zingano, Arch. J.J. Sonke and Late Arch. J.R. Kanjere. Since its inception to date MIA has, registered 80 Architects.
MEMBERSHIP
The membership of the institute consist of the following categories; Fellow member, Founding Members, Elected Members, Practice Members, Honorary Members, Graduate Members, Technical members and Student Members . The current register has 41 Architects of whom 4 are female Architects. In addition, MIA has 24 Graduate Architects, 6 Architectural Technicians and 26 Architectural Firms.
OUR MISSION
“In accordance with the Laws of Malawi, the objects of the Institute shall be generally to promote the cause, facilitate the advance, maintain the standards, and foster the understanding, the study, and the practice of Architecture; to assist the members of the public in Malawi in all matters touching on or ancillary or incidental to architecture and building; to represent the views and interests of the Institute’s members, and to preserve and protect the title “Architect”.
SOME FACTS
MIA Chapters
MIA has chapters in all the three regions of Malawi namely:
- Malawi Institute of Architects-Southern Chapter
- Malawi Institute of Architect-Central Chapter
- Malawi Institute of Architects-Northern Chapter
These chapters are comprised of all members of the institute resident in that region. Each chapter has a chairman elected by its representatives to Council.
